Reader’s Question:

I have a DUI on my record here in Arizona and I wanna know how long this violation will affect my auto insurance premiums. Thanks!

Gage

Glendale, AZ

As per Arizona Division of Motor Vehicles, all sentences received and sr22 texas displaying on your driving record in the past 39 months would be given to an auto insurance carrier that asks for a copy of your motor vehicle record (MVR) which is the printout of your driving record. The means in which an Arizona driver’s license or MVR information could become available is regulated by the Federal Driver’s Privacy Protection Act (DPPA). This mandates the driver to have a “permitted use” for asking and receiving an MVD record that has personal identifying details (such as your name, SSN, etc.)

The amount of time your auto insurance premiums would be affected by your DUI rely on the look back period of your auto insurance provider and its rating system. In the event that your auto insurance provider could see your DUI on your MVR for 39 months, it would possible that your auto insurance premiums will be higher for this whole period. If you feel that what you pay now for your auto insurance is too high, you can definitely make it lower. You can shop around and compare auto insurance quotes to find the best coverage that you can afford. You can compare auto insurance quotes by visiting comparison quotes Website (like this Website) and you may be surprised to know that you can surely have lower auto insurance premiums.

DUI Auto Insurance

Reader’s Question:

What is the average auto insurance rate increase with DUI conviction? I live in Lakewood, Colorado. Could you guys help me find cheaper DUI auto insurance?

Kate

Lakewood, CO

The auto insurance premium rate increase will probably occur at your next renewal period when your insurance carrier checks your motor vehicle record (MVR) and sees this DUI offense listed. The length of time for the increased premium rate will again depend upon state laws or the insurance carrier’s own rating rules and guidelines. Generally, it can affect you for three to seven years typically or as long as the offense is on your driving record if state insurance laws permit it.

With a drunk driving conviction car insurance rates tend to increase quite a bit and you will likely be classified now as a high risk motorist. According to the Colorado’s DOT your car insurance (if it’s not terminated) could go up 30 % on average. The amount of the car insurance rate increase will depend upon your insurance carrier’s rating system. Caught With Marijuana in My Car

Reader’s Question:

If marijuana is found in someone’s vehicle by a law enforcement officer and they get a ticket for that, does their car insurance rate go up?

Jim

Denver, CO

It would likely depend upon the type of violation that the motorist was cited for. If it was a DWI or DUI, ticket that the individual received and they are convicted of this offense then it would go on their driving record where their insurance carrier could see it.

A DWI or DUI is considered a major violation and therefore insurance rates could be affected greatly. If the ticket was a different violation but still listed as a drug offense on your motor vehicle record (MVR) then it still would likely affect your auto insurance rates.

Insurance rating systems differ from one insurance carrier to another so if you were cited for an officer finding marijuana in your car you would need to verify from your insurance agent how your insurance carrier rates this type of violation.
